The two sisters above posed in their backyard for a very informal pastel portrait. The pastel paintings of the two sisters below are of a much more traditional nature, and were actually commissioned by their grandmother. Although the first portrait is far more contemporary than the latter ones, I tried in each to capture a memorably quiet moment in their tender young lives.

"Bryce"

These two charming young boys were a real treat to work with. In general boys are  more active than girls, and their vitality shows in their faces. And where women and young girls may have an air of introspection or mystery about them, young boys are more apt  to be surrounded by an aura of impish mischievousness.

These two darling children were a delight to paint. Brother and sister, Raleigh and Jack showed a great deal of warmth and affection for each other all through their photo shoot, even though all of us were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes! Although I was asked to paint two separate portraits instead of a single portrait, the paintings were meant to hang side by side. That's why the atmospheric backgrounds in each are so similar.
